21 Months!

Holy cow! Only 3 more months until my sweet "baby" is going to be 2!!!!

Koleton's new favorite word is "car" or "kuur" as he says it ;) His voice gets very serious and deep and he points to every "kuur" and says it lol He LOVES vehicles! Cars, trucks, buses, tractors, if it has an engine and a motor he is in love haha  He also loves the movie Cars 2.  He is so over the original Cars and has moved on to the sequel :) I may even break down and make up his "big boy" room with a Cars 2 theme. I highly dislike doing a character theme, but I cannot find a cute "vehicle" bed set that won't break the bank! Plus the way his big blue eyes light up when he sees Lightning McQueen will make it worth it :) We shall see!

Kole is getting better and better around people. He still doesn't like people if he doesn't know them but now he will kiss my friends bye and he even spent an afternoon playing WITH my friend's daughter! He likes older kids MUCH more than younger ones.

His favorite food these days is peanut butter and jelly sandwiches! He still expects a full dinner though! Meat, potatoes, veggies, etc! Don't think you can fool him with "we're having breakfast for dinner!" lol When it is dinner time, you better be serving dinner!

We just took Koleton out of town to see VeggieTales Live this past weekend! He wasn't so thrilled when the human actors were on stage, but once Larry, Bob and the others came out it was like he was mesmerized! He danced a little, tried to run to the other side of the stage, and smiled a LOT! He even got to meet Bob and Larry after the show! We hurried out to wait (it was past his bedtime already) and he was like third in line. He looked at them like they were crazy, of course this Bob and Larry had arms and legs, so I'm sure he wasn't fooled ;) He was so good the whole trip up the Pampa (about 6 hours away) and since it was pretty much a turn around trip, he was understandably irritable on the ride home.  We did stop at the Amarillo Zoo on the way home too! It was a cute little zoo, much smaller than the Phoenix Zoo or others like that but they had tigers, lions, monkeys etc and the animals were much closer! One tiger even stood up and growled at us like 2 feet away!  Overall it was a good trip and we all had fun :)

We are working on "learning" time out now as well.  It seems to be going pretty well, though he mostly gets put in time out for throwing his temper tantrums.  Spanking doesn't seem to do much, but he doesn't like sitting in time out! He does sit there for his whole minute most of the time.

His new favorite toys are Mr. Potato Head, a shapes puzzle, and of course his hot wheels (Cars characters of course haha).  We are working on giving up the paci (tomorrow they all go in the trash! I've been warning him all week lol) and next month we are thinking about starting potty training! He weighs about 26 pounds now (I don't know how tall he is right now), wears a size 5 diaper, size 18-24 month bottoms and 24m-2t shirts (even some 3t!!). He is in a size 6/7 shoe.  Growing so big, so fast!

I can't believe it is time to start planning his 2nd birthday party already!!! Time flies!!

19 Months!

Holy Cow does time ever fly!!! 19 months ago today, we met our sweet little boy!  Every day he amazes us even more!  Brad and I say every day how lucky we are to have him, and we ask how we got such a good, sweet, smart kid!

Koleton's favorite color is orange! How do we know that? It all started with an orange wooden block. He started carrying it around with him everywhere. He even took it to bed with him and had it tight in his fist when he woke up in the middle of the night and again in the morning!  We thought, "hmmm ok well he sure likes that orange block!" Then he had another orange block (the first was in the diaper bag). This means he went to his box of blocks (all different colors and shapes) and pulled another one out!  The same thing, he held onto it like it was gold!  The next day he had an orange triangle block. He will choose the orange block (any shape) over his hot wheels (his other favorite) some days! This has been going on for a couple of weeks now, and he has yet to pull a different color block out of the bin! Hence, his favorite color is orange :)

CARS!!! Oh boy, oh boy, does my boy ever love cars! He has a Lightning McQueen car that is pretty big that he just LOVES! He even put it to bed on a blanket next to his crib the other night ;)  And Hot Wheels are another favorite, but he is picky about which ones! He definitely has his favorites! lol

Koleton still loves his tv and movies, though we are trying to cut down the "fun" shows/movies and keep educational stuff on.  PBS runs all morning, though he doesn't just sit and watch tv all day. I figure I'd rather he be learning than just getting addicted to tv!  His favorite movies are Cars and Bolt (yes, still Bolt haha).  He LOVES watching Super Why, Dinosaur Train, Sesame Street (mostly Elmo, curses!!!!) and Sid the Science Kid.  He is doing really well without the "junk" tv and I'm happy he is learning and playing, using his imagination more than just staring at the tv :)

So, I am a Goodwill junkie, as most of you know already! I found Koleton a big slide a while back (normally retails for $90 and I got it for $9).  It was outside so he didn't play with it too often.  I cleaned it up recently and brought it in the house hoping that our little observer/thinker would get a little more adventurous (he doesn't climb the play equipment at the mall etc). Well sure as heck, he did! He is PRO at climbing up the ladder, sitting at the top of the slide, and going down now!  He tries climbing up the slide part, too, and gets to the top, but can't sit, so he ends up sliding down on his tummy :)

We took Koleton to his 18 month doctor's appointment a couple weeks ago and he was 24.5lbs and 31.5" tall!  He is still in the 25th percentile for both height and weight, but is perfectly healthy!  His head is still huge (we are sure it is because he is a genius ;) ) but his doctor said it should stop growing now that his soft spot is all closed up! I just thought it was funny that she said that... as in "Geez, his head is HUGE compared to the rest of him, but hopefully it stops growing now!!!" haha He is fitting and growing out of size 18 month clothes now.  Some shirts he has go up to 2t, but pants are still 18 months in the waist though they are getting a little short now!  He is in size 4 diapers and I bet it won't be too long before he grows out of those too!

Koleton's best friend is... himself! haha I hear him talking all the time in our bedroom so I go see what he is up to, and there he is, talking to his "best friend" in the mirror lol He LOVES himself, that is for sure!  Just ask him who that handsome boy in the mirror is and he will SMILE so big and laugh :)  He is the sweetest kid, really! He loves on stuffed animals all the time, hugs and kisses them :) And he LOVES our animals! All of them! He goes up to them all sweet, high pitched voice and pets them.  He loves our cat the most though (probably because she is inside all the time and the dogs are outside/inside). He will chase her around and around the house until she gets tired of him, and then he keeps going lol His forehead met her claw yesterday :( She is going in to get those darned claws removed soon! Maybe once they are gone, a bat in the head will clue him in the the fact that the cat doesn't want to play anymore!

I couldn't say exactly what his favorite food is right now cause it changes all the time!  French fries, I suppose would be his favorite, but what parent wants to admit that?!?! ;)  I suppose I would have to say Mexican food is his favorite! He loves bean burritos, beans, rice, spicy food (not TOO spicy of course). He gobbled down the chicken enchilada soup I made, as well as tacos and spanish rice!  He is most definitely my kid! ;)

I almost forgot! Koleton is talking :) It is still mostly in Koleton-ese, but there are real words interlaced in there!   He waves his hand and says "hhhhaaaaa" for hot (at the stove), says cat, dog, go go, lets go, yeah, no, car, dada, mama, "where'dhego", "where'ddaddygo", all done (aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa lol). He also signs more, please, all done, milk, eat, and smart. He even combines those and will sign "more, please" or "eat more". He is just so stinkin' smart! We sign the alphabet when we sing the ABC's, though that may take a while to learn since it is so finger dependent, but I'm sure he will get it one day :)

That is pretty much Koleton these days!  Hopefully blog hiatus is over and I will update AT LEAST once a month on his "birthday".

Park

The past weekend we took Koleton to the park to let him run around and get out some energy (I drug the "boys" thrift shopping with me that day haha).  He had so much fun and went down the slide by himself for the first time! He LOVED it!!! He is such an outdoorsy kid :)

He had just so much fun! Sorry the pictures are so small, but I figured a collage would take up much less room than posting each picture individually! :)

Halloween

Well Halloween came and went! We didn't do anything on the actual holiday, mostly because Koleton's bedtime is (well was before daylight savings time screwed up his schedule!) at 7. By the time we had dinner, got him dressed and in the car, it would have just about been his bath time.  My mommy group, however, did have a Halloween party the weekend before that we went to and dressed him up!

I did a collage since this is only a few of the pictures of him in his costume, but he makes a darn cute little indian if I do say so myself!!!  I love the one in the bottom right corner with his finger pointing... that is one of his favorite things to do - give "lectures"! If he really gets going talking to someone (himself in the mirror, the dog, occasionally Brad or myself, or a random stranger even!) he gets his finger pointing and enunciates his words as though whatever he is saying is so very important that you had better take note and pay attention! :) This kid is so stinkin' cute!!!

16 Months Old!

Well, Mr. Koleton is now officially 16 months old!  Time goes by so quickly!  We now say that he has officially reached "toddler-hood" because he can be such a little stinker at times! He is tall enough to reach things now... especially things he isn't supposed to have!  A few days ago he reached up onto the dining table and pulled the pepper shaker down and started licking the top. I just looked at him and he ran up to me and gave me his BIG cheesy grin and licked the top again! When I asked for the shaker back, he grinned at me again and took off running... another of his favorite things to do these days, the exact OPPOSITE of what we ask!  He is a better eater than ever, especially when it comes to mashed potatoes, broccoli, and condiments lol Yes, you heard (read) correctly... my boy LOVES condiments! Sour cream, A-1 sauce, ketchup, Italian dressing, ranch...if it is a sauce we are using, he wants it! Not for his food either! He just goes straight in with his fingers (or whole hand depending on the condiment haha)!  It is so bad that we have to hide the bottles/containers from him so he will eat real food!

He is wearing 18 month clothes now, though the pants are still a little big (12 months are getting too short and a little tight in the waist!) and some sleeves are a bit long and a size 5 tennis shoe!  He jumped from a 3 to a 5! I think they are a little big, but that doesn't stop him from getting around! He LOVE LOVE LOVES being outside! Just about every night right now (until it gets too much colder) after dinner we take him outside and let him run around.  He has a car that he can ride in and push himself with his feet (though he doesn't do that yet) and he will ride around the yard in that, or take Walter's ball from him and taunt the poor dog with it!  It is always a fight to bring him back inside just because he loves being outdoors so much!

When Koleton is interested in something, or is really playing with his toys, his new thing to do is lay down on his stomach.  We got him a Leapster (educational video game) at a thrift store for Christmas. Since he is too young to really understand it or play with it, we figured it would just be something that makes noise, lights up, and is electronic that may hold his attention when he has to sit somewhere (like at dinner waiting for food).  We "tested" it on him the day we got it and he grabbed it and laid down next to his daddy on his tummy and started playing with it! It was too cute!

Another of his favorite things lately is taking his OWN shower!  It started with him showering with me in the mornings, and then once the temperature started dropping, I didn't want him running around naked while I got myself dressed, so I left him in the shower on his own to stay warm. Now he LOVES it!  He practically kicks me out of the shower before I am done! lol!  Goofy kid :)

He is growing so much!  He is so smart and understands so much! He does sign language for "more", "eat", "thank you", "help", "bye-bye", "milk", and "all done".  He waves bye bye to everyone, and night night to his daddy when I go to lay him down at night :) His stranger anxiety seems to be easing up a lot lately too!  He may be stubborn and frustrating at times but he is our perfect little boy and we wouldn't trade him for anything in this world!!!!

Rummage Sale-ing

I LOVE thrift shopping and finding bargains any way/where I can! I go to Goodwill and Dollar Tree all the time. A small town out here was having a rummage sale to benefit their volunteer fire department, so I drug Koleton out there to go "shopping". We met Brad's parents there since they lived literally up the road from the sale. I found some good stuff for crafting, and then I let Koleton run around outside for a bit with his grandparents.  They played, he went on the swing by himself, then I swung with him and he started falling asleep. It was a good day!
 Just running around :)
 "Playing" with his shadow
Trying to get around Grandma lol
 Talking with Grandpa
Swinging away with his oatmeal cookie!

He had a good time (and looked so cute if I do say so myself lol)  We went to Goodwill the other day and while we were walking around he spotted a keyboard and he HAD to have it! He pointed and whined and pointed and grunted lol I gave it to him and turned it on and it had working batteries! We walked through Goodwill listening to some pre-recorded songs accompanied by Mr. Koleton himself! Honestly, if people minded, I didn't care lol My boy was happy and having fun!  He even played with it the whole way home.

Look at that face!! That is the face of one happy little boy! And yes, I realize the keyboard is pink... but he doesn't yet know that pink is "for"girls and blue is "for" boys.  We are trying not to gender-ize things too much for him yet.  The girls I was watching left a doll stroller over here... and it is one of his favorite things to push around! Brad is wanting to make him a kitchen out of an old entertainment center (assuming we can find one that will work!). We are really trying to not get caught up in little things like "girls'" or "boys'" yet, so long as he is happy and healthy, we are happy!

Dinner Out

We generally try to go out on family dates on Saturdays. It usually ends up being a late lunch/early dinner deal, which is nice since we beat the crowds.  This last Saturday was no different! We went to Golden Corral "early" for dinner, or so we thought! It was pretty busy when we got there. Normally I send Brad to get some food for himself and Koleton. Well, he came back without Koleton's most FAVORITE food... mashed potatoes!!! They were out! Blasphemy! He did manage to scrounge up some other food the kid will eat (I mean, he really isn't TOO picky lol).  Eventually, they whipped up some potatoes and Koleton ate a bowl and a half of them!!! The only thing he possibly loves more than "Crushed Idaho's" as we have to call them around here as "code" would be broccoli! Grilled chicken (a la George Foreman), broccoli, and mashed potatoes would have to be his most favorite meal to date :)

At the Golden Corral here they have a chocolate fountain now! I went and got some marshmallows, pineapple, and strawberries and covered them in chocolate, YUM! Of course Koleton wanted in on the chocolate goods, so I gave him a marshmallow on a skewer and he went to town!

Brad started freaking out because Koleton was such a mess while eating. I told him "Let him! When else in his life will he get to eat like this and make such a mess without people staring?" lol I figure, he will clean up and if he is happy and not hurting himself or anyone else... why not?!

P.S. He dropped the marshmallow on the floor... he just indulged in the chocolate ;)
